About the program

An 8-week mindfulness course for veterans and their families.

The program is an 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course built specifically for current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members, with a separate track for family members and carers. It runs as weekly live sessions plus a closing retreat, covering body awareness, stress recognition and emotional regulation — grounded in an approach with decades of clinical research behind it.

It's delivered by OpenGround, an Australian mindfulness and compassion training organisation, alongside government-backed veteran support services. Swivel Digital's involvement was scoped specifically around the mobile and web product supporting the course, not the wider program design.

The problem

A course built around weekly live sessions and a closing retreat still needed a way for participants to access practice audio, track progress and reflect between sessions — without losing the structure of the program or blending veteran and family content together, since each group's course content needed to stay distinct.

Swivel Digital's role

One program, delivered two ways.

Swivel Digital designed and built the digital product supporting the course, delivered as both a native app and a lightweight web version, giving the client a simple way to preview and share course content without requiring an app install.

  • Native mobile app

A dedicated iOS and Android app supporting the 8-week course, built for veterans and a separate track for family members and carers.

  • Web version

A lightweight web build of the same program, giving the client a simpler way to preview and share course content without requiring an app install.

Technical and delivery approach

Both builds share a common technical foundation — Flutter for cross-platform delivery from a single codebase, and Firebase for authentication, content and user data on the native app.

Outcome

How it's landed.

The app is live and available to download on both the App Store and Google Play, giving veterans and their families direct access to the program from their phone. It remains available today, alongside the web version, as part of the program's ongoing delivery.
